This week, the club looks forward to continuing the annual tradition of FCCLA week, which includes a milk shake sale during break Monday through Friday for $1.00 and dress up days.

Tech Team Update

The WAPAC Tech Team, headed by Mr. Dahlen, is the group responsible for the technology based behind the scenes of various performances in the Westby Area Performing Arts Center. Team members handle all of the lighting on stage, including a pre-programed light system run by two or three students, along with two spotlights that are used when a certain person or place needs to be lit on stage.
Service Club members serve meals at the Warming Center in La Crosse in December, which was a meaningful experience for all.

Westby's Service Club has continued to be a great help to our community. Members have contributed their time and effort into helping our community through service-oriented projects such as gift wrapping and creating cards for Norseland. Club advisor, Mrs. Tammy Gilkes continues to leave a mark at Westby through the club's membership and projects. Staff advisor Mr. Ed Pedretti facilitates the meetings that have taken place during the school day.

FFA Update

Westby Area High School's FFA has had a strong start to the 2022-2023 school year. The student organization started the fall with a new staff advisor, Mrs. Betsi Bishop, who was hired in the summer of 2022 as the new agriculture and animal sciences teacher.

So far in Service club, members made gift baskets for the Elementary Halloween party. Members also recently made tie blankets for Sleep in Heavenly peace, which is being held this Saturday, December 3rd. Members will build beds for community members in need. Their goal is to build 20 beds.

Pride Initiative Update

The WAHS chapter of the Wisconsin GSA student organization is an open and accepting group of all kinds. They are growing at a rapid rate, tripling their at the start of the school year. The club premiered in the spring of 2021 with four dedicated members, but now has become a thriving community with over 25. Since the start, the Pride Initiative's goal has been to foster a safe, loving environment for all and to support the LGBTQ+ community.

Green Club Update

Westby's Green Club is an environmental conservation based club. Activities of the current school year include pop tab collection, ink cartridge collection, creating things with recycled materials, and other recycling projects.

Mr. Anderson is a new staff member at WASD, though “Westby is home” for him. Mr. Anderson mentioned he grew up in Westby, graduated from Westby and stated “the community support is second to none” when asked why he chose to teach at Westby.
