Westby Area High School’s FFA has had a strong start to the 2022-2023 school year. The student organization started the fall with a new staff advisor, Mrs. Betsi Bishop, who was hired in the summer of 2022 as the new agriculture and animal sciences teacher.

Student leadership and membership in Westby’s FFA includes many students who have been members for many years. This year’s president Rachel Simonson (12), has been in FFA for quite some time. Simonson enjoys agriculture and loves being a leader. She says that after college she plans on going into the Agricultural Field as her career pathway.

Other Officers for this year include: Daniel Frydenlund (12), Gabrielle Olson (12), Aubrey Jothen (12), Ivan Arendt (12), Abby Leis (12), Emma Solverson (12), and Hailey Nerison (12).

At the beginning of this year, members traveled to Madison to the World Dairy Expo, and officers went to a fall leadership conference in Whitehall. Recently, Westby FFA has had their traditional fruit and nut sale, with a great turnout. The FFA and FFA Alumni are also hosting their annual Christmas tree sale, which has been a success. Advisor Mrs. Betsi Bishop said, “We have our senior trip and Halftime Conference coming up in January. FFA Week will be in February.”
