Homecoming Review

This year’s Homecoming Week was very enjoyable for the students and the community. The theme for this year was Decades. Freshman had the 50s, Sophomores had the 60s, Juniors had the 70s, Seniors had the 80s, and staff had the 90s. In school, class competitions were held all week and so much work was put into every competition by every grade. The Senior class won the class competitions for the week. The Class Officers in combination with the staff and cheerleaders did a great job planning out the events.
On Thursday night, the great tradition of the homecoming bonfire was held. It was lit by the Westby-Christiana Fire Dept. and attendance was high. On the way down to Mars field, students performed a snake dance led by cheerleaders from the different grades.
So many class competitions and shows of school spirit were present on the Friday of Homecoming. During one of the pep sessions, staff were asked to play “Hollywood Squares.”

Also included in a session was a tradition started last year– the class skits. The Freshman skit encompassed common 50s scenarios and a guitar. The Sophomore skit was based around a Green Bay Packer football game and starred Ben Roethel as Elvis Presley. The Juniors had female football players and male cheerleaders dancing to the School Song, all reenacting when Westby High won the State Football Championship in the 1970s. The Seniors performed a skit showcasing a volleyball match from Top Gun and finishing with 80s jazzercise. There were also two student-teacher father-daughter dances. The last pep session ended with the introduction to the 2022 Westby Norse Football Team. There were even backflips involved.
On Friday night, the Westby Norse won the homecoming football game against the Black River Falls Tigers. The band performed music from the early 2000’s, which was the decade when the Seniors were born.
Overall, homecoming week 2022 was one to remember.
