Pride Initiative Update
WAHS Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA)
Pride Initiative members pose together during a lunch meeting this fall.
The WAHS chapter of the Wisconsin GSA student organization is an open and accepting group of all kinds. They are growing at a rapid rate, tripling their at the start of the school year. The club premiered in the spring of 2021 with four dedicated members, but now has become a thriving community with over 25. Since the start, the Pride Initiative’s goal has been to foster a safe, loving environment for all and to support the LGBTQ+ community.
Recently, they hosted a cookie baking social (Gayla) for a beginning of the year event. Members gathered ingredients and collectively made about 4 batches of sugar cookies and frosted them with homemade icing. While the cookies were being made, conversations of all subjects were had, and some sweet and savory snacks were shared. Even though at times it was slightly chaotic, there was much fun to be had.

The Westby GSA invites you to join our quickly increasing population with an open mind and an empty stomach. They have lunch meetings every Wednesday with cookies, Kahoots, and Kool-aid. They are preparing for their latest social, a Christmas bake sale! Please join this wonderful microcosm that has sprung from our student community.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Westby Area High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
